Kilikkoodu / Bird’s nest
Kilikkoodu / Bird’s nest is a snacks recipe in Kerala cuisine, mainly in Malabar. It’s a non vegetarian kilkkoode recipe we can make vegetarian also. This is the combination of potatoes, chicken, vermicelli, egg and an aromatic flavor of masalas. You can serve this kilikkoode recipe in iftar parties.

Ingredients for making Kilikkoodu / Bird’s nest
- Cooked and smashed potatoes 1 cup (2 small size potatoes)
- Cooked chicken 1 cup
- Onion 1 large size
- Green chili 1 chopped
- Ginger 1 tablespoon chopped
- Garlic 1 table spoon chopped
- Curry leaves 2 springs
- Oil 2 tbale spoon
- Oil for deep frying
- Salt to taste
- Egg 1
- Vermicelli for coating
- Turmeric powder ¼ teaspoon
- Red chili powder 1 teaspoon
- Pepper powder 1 ¼ teaspoon
- Garam masala 1 teaspoon
Method
Heat oil in a pan, add curry leaves, chopped ginger and garlic saute it for 1 minute.
Add sliced onions, salt in to it and fry until the onion become lightly golden brown in color.
Now add masalas like turmeric powder, red chili powder, pepper powder and garam masala powder, sauté for few minutes.
Add shredded chicken pieces and combine well. Switch off the flame and keep it aside to cool.
In a bowl take smashed potatoes, add chicken masala mix in it.
In a bowl add 1 egg, very little salt and beat well.
Combine well and make tight dough. Take lemon size ball from the dough.
Make a desired shape and dip it in to the egg and rotate in the vermicelli.
Heat oil in a deep bottom pan, fry till both sides turn golden brown in color.
