Prawns and Chicken Undaputtu
Prawns and chicken undaputtu is a spicy and healthy breakfast recipe in Kerala. This is also an iftar special snacks recipe. My baby like this undaputt very much, the making is also very simple.

- Ingredients for making prawns masala
- Prawns 10 no.s chopped
- Onion ½ piece chopped
- Ginger 1 teaspoon finely chopped
- Curry leaves 1 spring
- Turmeric powder ½ teaspoon
- Red chili powder ½ teaspoon
- Garam masala ¾ teaspoon
- water2 table spoon
- Oil 1 table sopoon
- Salt to taste
Ingredients for making chicken filling
- Shredded chicken ¼ cup
- Onion ½ piece chopped
- Ginger 1 teaspoon finely chopped
- Curry leaves 1 spring
- Turmeric powder ½ teaspoon
- Red chili powder ½ teaspoon
- Garam masala ¾ teaspoon
- Pepper powder ½ teaspoon
- Salt to taste
- Oil 1 table spoon
For making rice daugh
- Rice powder (idiappam powder) 1 ½ cup
- Water 1 cup
- Salt to taste
Other ingredients
- Grated coconut 1 cup
Method of preparing the dough
In pan heat water by adding enough salt, add this water in to the rice powder little by little and make tight dough.
Method preparing the prawn’s masala filling
Heat oil in a pan, add finely chopped ginger and curry leaves. Sauté 1 minute. Add chopped onions and salt fry till the onion is transparent.
Then add masalas in it, sauté again till the raw small away from the masala.
Add chopped prawns, mix well.
Now add very little water, allow it to boil. Close the lid and cook for 2 minutes.
Remove it in to a plate and keep it aside to cool.
Method of preparing chicken masala filling
Heat oil in a pan, add finely chopped ginger and curry leaves. Sauté 1 minute. Add chopped onions and salt fry till the onion is transparent.
Then add masalas in it, sauté again till the raw small away from the masala
Add shredded chicken pieces in it and combine well.
Remove in to a bowl and keep it aside to cool.
Preparation of prawns and chicken unda puttu
Take a lemon sized balls from the rice powder dough,Make small discs put ½ table spoon filling in the centre. Close it well without any cracks.
Roll each ball in the grated coconut.
Steam cooks the prepared balls for 15 to 20 minutes in medium flame.
